We’ve all heard the phrase, “Jesus take the wheel.” Carrie Underwood even made it into a popular song.
“Jesus, take the wheel
Take it from my hands
‘Cause I can’t do this on my own
I’m letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I’m on
Jesus, take the wheel”
Maybe you’ve said it yourself, but perhaps not in those words. We want Jesus to have full control, but—boy—it can be hard to relinquish control sometimes.
Have you ever asked yourself this question?
“Where do I want to be piloted?” The natural tendency within us all as humans is to crave fame, fortune, power, popularity, comfort, etc.
These are destinations that please ourselves— and some even sound noble by the notion of pleasing others. However, when oneself or another person is our primary focus, the gas soon runs out on our endeavors. Our hope fades and we easily quit.
The good news is when we are fueled by an inward power—the Spirit of God—we will be wholehearted in all our pursuits. We will persevere when the going gets tough. We will be filled with love for God and for others.
This is because our pilot is Christ. He is our teacher. He leads us straight into the perfect path. His landing pad is the love of God and his runway is his very own steadfast endurance.
We need this power of Christ! We cease striving (Psalm 46:10) and we ask him to put it there (Ephesians 3:19). Only Jesus can pilot us straight into the love of God.
Nestled tightly in his wings is where we find rest. Our visions of grandeur in this world grow dim and the light of his path to glory shines immensely bright.
Hold on! It’s going to be one heavenly ride! 😀
“May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5
